You know what we need more of? Horror compilation movies. Things like “Creep Show” or “Tales From the Darkside”. There are a lot of good ideas out there that are just too short for a full length feature film. When someone in Hollywood likes the idea, they stretch it out and the idea suffers, the movie sucks. We need someone to make another good “Twilight Zone Movie”. Three or four short-form pieces blown out in full Hollywood style.
There are plenty of places to find great short fiction on the internet. Text, audio and even some video. Someone should give Earl Newton and his crew a big Hollywood budget and put his movies up on the big screen. In case you’ve never seen “Stranger Things“, you should go check them out, they’re pretty awesome…
But as cool as the interweb is, I want to see these stories put out as movies. I want to see a revival of storytelling in movies rather than a celebration of who can blow up the most shit. Explosions, trend-followers, expired franchises and half-assed remakes… I’m sick of the movies we’re being offered. I want to be entertained, not pacified. I want to think and not be spoon-fed. I want new movies, not the old classics thrown in a blender. Some of these movies will be great and some of them will suck but for better or worse, I want film makers to have to start working for a living!

Oh the things I have already heard about Xfmrs2… It’s making me re-evaluate how I think of movies and how I think of the movie-going public. If it’s HALF as bad as I’m hearing, how is it making so much damn money??? Just by looking at the box-office numbers, it MUST be what people want. And if that’s what people want… well then, I just don’t get it anymore do I?
Have fun at your movie tomorrow night, I hope it’s a solid ending and makes you happy!
