Not only am I unable to say no to her mother, Becca just found out that I can’t say no to her either.

There are three strange dogs in my garage right now and I know that they’ll chew up something or crap on everything.  These young pups have been strolling the neighborhood all m0rning and Becca and Liz have been fretting over them all day long.  They are cute but obviously abandoned.  Becca called Jeff and Karen (who work at the no-kill/spay-neuter-release shelter) and by the time they got out here the dogs were gone.

Becca was heartbroken and was sure we’d see the dogs on the road or somewhere worse.  We then dropped Jerry and Lizzy off at the airport and Becca was heartbroken again.  Every time Lizzy comes for a visit Becca is reminded of just how much she misses her.  So after we came home, the dogs showed up again.  I finally got a good look at them and they look like they have been well kept for a while but have obviously been loose for a long time.

She calls Karen and Jeff again and they are unable to get the dogs for another four hours.  “Daddy can we keep them safe in the garage?”  I hesitate and try my best to blow off the question until my neighbor says we can keep them in his garage and we can just come knock on his door.  So I was shamed into letting them stay in my garage…

Becca fed them and put some water out for them.  They are skittish and I was afraid that closing them in the garage would make them defensive but they seem to be doing just fine.  Four hours…  That’s how it starts.  Then Jeff won’t be able to come by tonight and we’ll have to keep them overnight.  And then Becca will give them names and we’ll have to keep one of them…

I don’t even really like my own dogs, why did I let her rescue these three dogs?  Maybe because I knew it shouldn’t really be a problem?  It’s the nice thing to do?  I didn’t want to look like a heartless prick in front of the neighbors?  No.  Mostly because I didn’t want to see my daughter’s heart broken twice in one day.

Her mother has trained me well.

  1. Yeah, and I’m the one sitting downstairs yelling and threatening her to stay away from the garage… she wants to make sure they aren’t scared and are comfortable… I’ve already threatened to turn them loose if she goes in there again…wish she’d do the same to her own dogs… Don’t worry baby, mommy says NO this time.
