Coffee compromise

Who the hell needs exercise?  All the shops in the secure side of O’Hare terminal shut down around 10pm every night.  We can’t begin drilling until 9:30pm and we work until 3 of 4am.  So this means that by the time we are ready for coffee, everything is shut down.

There is one coffee place still open in the entire airport.  It is in terminal 3, checkpoint L.  About a thousand light years from where we’re working.  Seriously, it’s about a half mile.  After walking there one night, I decided I didn’t need coffee that badly to ever walk it again.  I’m not walking a mile round trip for coffee.  But then the electricians came to a fat boy’s rescue.  He told me I could take his golf cart to make the coffee run.  So now, not only do I get to drive around the terminal top speed, but the crew buys my coffee if I make the run.

And yeah, you were waiting to hear it so I’ll admit it.  It IS a Starbucks.  My usual ranting about that place does not constitute hypocrisy.  It’s the only place that’s open.  I still refuse to order it by fancy names and I still refuse to use their pseudo sizing.  I walk up and I order a “large coffee, black.”  No mocha, latte, half, room, vente, pansy bullshit.  Large, coffee, black.  That’s it.

Well, for the most part…  I have been known to order a chai-latte, but damn it I still refuse to order by any name other than small, medium or large.

Teresa would love it here though.  They have white hot chocolate.  The ones at home don’t have it and she can only find it in Atlanta at a Caribou coffee.  Anyone know where she can get a white hot chocolate in Jacksonville?  Leave a comment, she’ll love you forever…
