Here we go again, another “celebrity” dies and people start losing their shit.

I put celebrity in quotes because you may not know who he is, but everyone in the rock/metal world knows Peter Steele.  Lead singer of Type O Negative, at 6’7″ and a voice low enough to vibrate mountains, he’s hard to miss.

The band ran a hoax publicity stunt five years ago making people think he was dead.  Now that he died, no one will believe it.  Whether or not he’s actually dead at this point is irrelevant.  My truck is with all these people that can’t handle celebrity deaths.  WTF?  When he first “died”, there were reports of suicide attempts and a flood of people who were really and truly upset at the death of a rock star.  A rock star who embraced death.  So, why do we do this?  And why do we do this over and over again?

I understand being mildly upset when your favorite star dies.  I’ve seen some of my rock idols die and I admit it made me sad.  But I didn’t personally know Joey Ramone so I just shrugged it off and went on with my day.  There are people that see their stars die and claim “life is no longer worth living without him/her in the world” and that indicates a mentally un-fucking-stable person.  It won’t take much to set this person off be it the death of their idol or their breakfast strudel getting burned in the toaster.  At some point, this person is going to snap and it would be wise to hide the automatic weapons and be far, far away when it happens.

It’s the natural order of things people.  Everything dies, older things usually die first.  You grew up watching their movies and listening to their music so in most cases they are older than you so… What is it about rock stars and movie stars dying that these people don’t get?

The thing that really bothers me is the sheer numbers of people that are mentally unhinged enough to be traumatized by the death of a celebrity.  I just don’t fucking get it.
