I’ve been meaning to write up a post about our Disney trip…time has just flown by UGH!
We needed a break, I needed a vacation. Chris & Becca have been on this major kick to see Mickey. We haven’t been in so many years. Becca was all Mickey’d out. Threw a fit every time we mentioned it. Too many rides on Tower, she’s giving herself panic attacks at just the thought of going to Disney.
Tax money came in and in desperation, I made the decision to take a weekend and hit Disney. Becca’s biggest complaint is that we never surprise her. We always end up telling her our plans and she never has that “SURPRISE” feeling. So, Chris and I made the decision to keep something from her. For weeks we planned how to pull this off. Moping around the house, complaining we have no money and need a vacation. Dying to go to Disney – MAYBE in December??? We told Becca we were going to spend and evening with my brother “somewhere” near Daytona? Deltona? It was a Flagler Alumni event and since Jerry was in town, we would go a visit. I even asked Karen to come over Thursday so I could shower and dress nice for my visit with Jerry. Jerry rented us a car (NOT) and thought maybe we’d stay with him at his hotel for the weekend if we wanted – so we packed bags just in case. It was perfect. We usually listen to Disney music on the way.. Nope.. Not even a hint of where we were going. Chris complained the whole time about how Jerry can’t give the right directions, how we were having to go through ORLANDO for goodness sake! At first I thought he protested too much, but my brainiac daughter was clueless! He tells us we have to take exit 65 to get to the restaurant.. HELLO?? The sign says RESORT HOTELS.. Becca had no clue.. We actually drive under the big WALT DISNEY WORLD sign… Becca had no clue. In fact, she sarcastically comments, “Oh great, we’re this close and we can’t even go!” I thought I’d piss myself trying not to laugh. We get off at the right exit, and actually made it all the way up to the security gate without Becca even THINKING we were going. It was priceless. I pull up to security and the lady says, “Checking in or visiting?” I quietly say, “Checking in” And all I hear in the back was… “REALLY?” It was hilarious! Had she had her ear phones on I swear we’d have made it to the parking lot before she noticed anything. We pulled off the prank and were the hero’s of the weekend. It was awesome. Of course, I never realized we were heading down on April Fool’s.. and didn’t think that maybe Becca would be disappointed we weren’t actually visiting with my brother.. OH WELL… We didn’t think about the house, the dogs, the day care, Girl Scouting, family or money the entire weekend. It was wonderful. Becca, terrified of Tower for so many years… out rode me! I believe last count was 11 times?? in a row?? I had to stop at 8.. my blood pressure didn’t like the ride too much though I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. It was a great time and I wish it didn’t have to end.

You left out all the great details! What about showing some love for the nacho and margarita delivery boy?
The trip was a much needed break for all of us. It wasn’t our “usual” Disney trip in that we couldn’t jump between parks this time and I think it worked out to our benefit. Instead of running all over the place trying to be “on time” for our imaginary plans, we sat down and enjoyed some of the scenery.
We got to see full sets from Off Kilter and The British Invasion instead of the one-song-walk-by. We took lots of pictures of ourselves and the best thing I saw was that you and Becca smiled a lot! Forgetting all the hustle of life’s problems and allowing yourself to relax for a couple of days was nice. We need to do this more often. We need to find a way to do this cheaper though…
We’ll keep finding ways to reduce your stress, this trip eased some of the pressure off the dam but it’s always raining, we’ll need more getaways…
Oh yeah, and I still say Gordon Gekko does not belong on the wall of villains!
