Either the smart guys are running out of things to pontificate on or I’ve always been brilliant and the rest of the world is finally catching up. I think the former is more likely than the latter.
What the hell is going on with Stephen Hawking? Two stories in a month that made me go, “Well yeah, duh!”
Aliens probably exist and if they find their way here they probably won’t be friendly. Was this ever a doubt in anyone’s mind?
Earth might turn into Venus by thickening the atmosphere and collecting too many gasses. No shit.
I thought these kinds of ideas were things the general populace already knew. Kind of like how the east coast of South America fits into the west coast of Africa. You can learn and debate about plate tectonics and the crust of the Earth and the basic HOW it happens but since I saw my first globe there was never any doubt that these two fit together at one point. We already know these things Stephen.
Didn’t we ALL know these things already? Who hasn’t thought of aliens discovering planet Earth and immediately thinking Trail of Tears? I can NOT be the only one… It only makes sense. And the Earth to Venus thing, either we’re microscopically spiraling in toward the sun and Earth will become Venus or we’re spiraling away from the Sun and Earth will become Mars. Either way, I am not the only one who has considered this to be fact since first learning about the planets.
So why are we suddenly getting bombarded with silly scientific thoughts that we already accepted as plausible when we were in the first grade? Has someone hacked into his keyboard? He’s known for being wicked smart and speaking in an accessible language for the common man but really, some things don’t need to be announced as if they are new thoughts.
If you’re out of fresh ideas, it is perfectly acceptable to just stop.

well, yes, the common meme is that they either are coming to spread a new golden age on earth for no reason whatsoever, and a benevolent “technology makes them a beneficial god” sort of way, or they are here to stick stuff up Redneck asses for some reason. (Maybe because they eliminated pedophilia among their priesthood, so there needs to be a different outlet?)
Only really exceptional writers think it’s a cookbook.

To respond to the overall post (just in case someone thinks my oblique references weren’t an answer):
No, it really is just you, and a few like you in regards to some stuff you think obvious (like aliens) the rest of the world holds beliefs that need to be directly contradicts to even have a few thing about it.
no, the general public did not know that south america and africa were once connected, it really isn’t “Obvious” to the general public for a number of reasons, the most important of which is that they didn’t care enough to ask questions… And that is a basic truth about our society. Some people ask “Why” but most people are lemmings, they get into a routine, and they are happy with that routine, no reason to ask questions….
This truth, if it’s true as I believe, explains 90% of all the problems in the US. We as a whole don’t care enough to make change, until some critical mass is hit, and then it becomes the routine, and we will all chase that “oh Pretty”.
