PC/Mac is an argument that falls just barely behind politics and religion in the list of disagreements that are most likely to make you get into a fist fight with a loved one. If you’re a brain-dead hick, substitute PC/Mac with Ford/Chevy…
Side note, I’ve noticed something about my new neighborhood. I went out to find a book store today to purchase Scott Sigler’s new book, “Contagious” (something you should ALL be doing today…) and found that on the Northside I see an increase in the number of Confederate battle flags and a decrease in the number of bookstores (see figure 1).

Are ignorance and intolerance caused by a lack of bookstores or is the lack of bookstores caused by the fear of “them thar book readin types”?
Back on track, the “Hello, I’m a PC and I’m a Mac” commercials are funny and cute but the new PC campaign is an utter and complete failure. I first saw these new, “I’m a PC” commercials a couple of months ago and thought they were actually Mac ads. The people I see in these commercials are not people I want to be around. They are creepy and annoying. Every one of them made me feel as if I were watching a bunch of adolescent YouTuber’s trying to impress me with their stamp collection or their Star Trek bootlegs. They were normal people and they were boring. Just like you and me. That’s their hook and their demise all in one. “I’m a PC and I’m just like you” is what they are trying to say but all I hear is, “I’m a PC and I’m boring and lame.” Why would that appeal to ANYone? Isn’t it the job of advertising agencies to show the flashy and exciting aspects of the product? No flash here, just a bunch of mindless automatons following the crowd to be like everyone else.
My brain automatically adjusts for the advertising flash. If the commercial says 10, I already think 8. If it screams fire-engine red I think dark rose pink. These new ads are already coming across as boring, my brain can’t adjust much lower. If they’re trying for some new truth in advertising thing and they say 8 and really mean 8, my brain is still adjusting to 6…
PCs work fine and I’ll probably never shake mine loose. I’m still getting used to my Mac that Wade set me up with but I’m already loving it! I’ve already set aside the money in the future budget for my new Macbook Pro. I’m on the road all the time, I might as well make my primary computer a laptop. But I’ll still have this old PC set up here at the desk. I’m not buying a new computer to belong to either camp. I’m buying a Mac for the reliability, the stability and the apps that PC just won’t do as well, not to belong to any special club. Maybe some of it has to do with the frustrations I have had with PCs but I’m not a PC or a Mac. I’m BiPuteral. My every day computing will be on the new Mac but my work and most of my family will always be PC because the world will always be PC. People fear and ridicule things they don’t understand.
“I’m a PC and I fear change.”

I’m not so sure that the world will always be on PC – linux works, is free, runs fast on older equipment, and is developing a solid enough foundation to become a real threat to Windows – it’s hard to beat Free, after all.

Umm-yeah, what Wade said! With the caveat that they need to guify the config enough for non-geeks to be able to be able to handle it without CLI experience. Not all of us speak command line interface.

Well you, you and I know this but have you considered the general public? When is the last time people have chosen what is better over what is easier… More importantly, when have they switched gears AFTER making that choice? Betamax?
The only way Linux gets a foothold is when Wal*Mart and Dell starts selling pre-packaged machines. I’d honestly like to see Linux come up, but I’m not holding my breath.
While I’m on that subject, with the “Big 3″ auto bailout, I’d like to see Tucker or some other small company jump in…
