Has it really been that long since I’ve written anything? Time certainly has flown by.. To catch up..
A big thanks to all our family and friends that came out last Sunday to help me cheer up my wonderful husband. It seems to have done the trick because he sounds awesome when I talk to him on the phone. Last week was crazy and hectic. Sunday we had that wonderful get together – I hope I didn’t make too much of a fool of myself. I get overly excited and forget myself when so many friends and family are around. Monday we spent the day with Becca and a sick Laura, fixing up their History Fair project. We should have thought better than to have Laura come over as she was supposed to come over Sunday but was running a fever. Remember, just because the fever broke does not mean she’s still not sick and contagious. GRRRR… Becca and Laura made it to the History fair but Wednesday was cut from the finals to go to district. They’re disappointed but happy they got at least that farm. Monday night I had my first of many meetings/activities of the week with Girl Scouts. Service Team meeting, only 5 of the 15 members showed up. Lucky me, I was one of the 5. I did find out that I’ll not only be getting my 5 year tenure pin but I’ll also be awarded and outstanding leader award. WOO HOO. Of course, my co-leader is furious – it was supposed to be a surprise. Tuesday I took Chris to the airport and worked on my GS stuff. Tuesday night, I had to put on my coach hat and hit a troop to check them out, be sure all was okay and drop off paperwork. Wednesday was our own meeting and the night was packed full of getting ready for our Thinking Day event. I showed them a different Mrs. Teresa-one they didn’t like. I yelled a few times and felt really bad when one of my favorites came up to me and asked, “Mrs. Teresa, why are you being so mean tonight?” It broke my heart… but… since several don’t LISTEN, you’ve got to scream to get their attention. Thursday was our Service Unit Meeting, where I spent a good 15 minutes trying to figure out where to put an unhappy leader. I finally got it arranged for her to move to another troop/cluster and when I got out of the meeting, I called her to let her know the happy news and she says, “Nah, I like where I am, I’ll stay til the end of the year.” GRRRR! Friday was our Thinking Day event. We had Costa Rica as our country and the girls did well with our display board, SWAPS and food. The strawberry smoothie was a hit, the plantains were awesome and no one touched the vat of rice pudding we had on display. I have to say, I tasted it and ewwww, nasty. I think it would have been better HOT but since I was told that they ate it cold, it was served cold. NASTY… Anyway, the night went well…until the end. The girls were a little out of hand – 5 countries, 20 booths filled with smoothies, pudding, ice cream, cookies, cakes etc… will definitely cause a major sugar rush. It was manageable until the end when two of my girls decided to jump on the stage and have a pushing contest – right next to a huge Thinking Day display board. They knock it over onto an unsuspecting Daisy child and ran to hide so they don’t get caught. Unfortunately, the co-ordinator saw who did it, went over to confront the girls who did a very un-girl scout like thing and LIED! UGH! I was so angry so embarrassed. Just wait until our next meeting, their butts are doomed. Saturday was cookie pickup. I spent from 12pm until 2:30 up at the K-mart parking lot helping my new leaders collect their cookies and then help collect ours. We went to the cookie mom’s house (2:30-6pm), set up a tent, pulled out a cooler full of cokes and water and pigged out on pizza and cupcakes then began filling orders. Of course, I didn’t mention that at this time Becca is lying down in the back of my car with glassy eyes, pale face and runny nose. DARN LAURA! Becca has the flu but unfortunately I NEED to be there. So as we’re packing up orders, I graciously offer to use my car as a delivery truck to one of the mom’s that sold a ton of cookies but only has a small compact car. While we’re putting the cookies in my car, I lose a grip on one of the boxes and slam my poor hand into the side of my car on the metal latch for the back door. Oh the agony. It immediately within seconds starts to swell. I can’t curse but I scream for ice. Even the ice hurts like hell…I think I broke my hand. Nope, I can move it slightly but the pain is pure agony!! I’m done with the cookies, someone else is going to load and unload. Sunday we spent the entire day in bed. Becca is looking and feeling terrible. If she’s not crying she’s sleeping. Poor thing. I’ve got a scratchy throat and stuffy head. I DON’T want to get sick. My thumb is purple and still swollen but at least I can move it. Nicholas was supposed to come over and play video games with Becca but unfortunately we had to cancel that because we didn’t want them to catch whatever nasties we have right now. Today is Monday, Becca is sniffing and coughing in bed and I am trying to shovel out a weeks work of neglect from this house. I just got an email that our cookie booths for this weekend will be short staffed because volunteers of those booths decided to make plans after they volunteered for the booths. I’ll be damned if I’m going to spend my weekend at cookie booths when my wonderful husband will be in town. It’s bad enough I have to waste 3 hours on Saturday at one GRRR! So, any of you that bought cookies – I’ll try to get with you next weekend (while Chris is home) to drop them off. I hate to wait but think you’d rather not catch our germs! I also just found out that they want our troop to do another recruitment for girls this week. UGH! I need more time in the week. I’m running out of time! The days are filling up fast.
There is probably more to say, but I just lost whatever was in my head…I think it’s time for another dose of medicine.
