It’s NFL draft day. Wow, isn’t that a strange statement coming from my mouth (typed from my fingers)? I couldn’t give a shit less about football, that’s Teresa’s sport. But today is the day Scott Sigler is putting his novel “The Rookie” on sale on his website.
If you’ve been reading along for a while you’ll know that I’m a fan of a few podcast fiction writers. You’ve seen me push Scott Sigler, JC Hutchins and Mur Lafferty when they got their books into print. This book (The Rookie) is the ONLY piece of Sigler’s available fiction that I’ve not read/heard yet. I have the entire podcast series but I just couldn’t get into all the football stats/jargon.
But I’ve heard from other fans that it gets past the football fanatic stuff real quick and delves into the horror genre where it belongs. I was told to imagine “Star Wars” meets “The Godfather” meets “Any Given Sunday”. Gangster football in space… So just about the time I decide I need to go back and give it a listen, Scott announces the news that his publisher is not interested in “The Rookie” and that he’s going to self-publish the book. He’s making 3000 copies available on NFL draft day, today at 4:pm
I’ve already ordered mine, go get yours. Based on his other books, I can’t wait to see what an idiot I was for passing on this one originally. Of course, now I’ve got something to look forward to. Rather than get it, look it over and put it on my shelf, I’ll actually read this one without knowing the story. Very cool…
