“Twitter guilt” has expanded my listening habits even further (and will cost me money…)

I hear the promos for Seth Harwood’s “Jack Palms” stories all the time on the various podcasts I listen to. I hear them but I’ve never checked out the stories because I’m not into the hard-boiled detective type of story. Jack Nicholson rocks but I’ve only seen “Chinatown” once and didn’t really care for it. I even hated the ST:TNG episodes where Picard uses the holodeck because he always did the gritty detective thing. I just don’t dig the genre…

Last week, Seth Harwood follows me on Twitter. Mutual friend of a friend of a friend type of thing but now here I am feeling guilty that I’ve never checked this guy out. So I go over and subscribe to his feed and I start listening to the first story, “Jack Wakes Up” on the long commutes to and from the ARTCC. I didn’t expect much, I’m sure Seth’s a great guy and all but it’s just not my genre.  So if I don’t like it, it’s probably just me.

Well now I’m putting all my other regular podcasts on hold until I get caught up with the latest from Seth. I’m about half way through the first book and it’s pretty damned good stuff! It’s a crime drama story without all the cheesy clichés I hate. And I suddenly find myself walking around and mentally narrating everything in the detective genre style.  I’ve downloaded the rest of the stories and I’m getting caught up fast.

So tomorrow is the date another podcast author sees his book in print at your local brick and mortar stores. Support these new authors breaking into the publishing industry and go pick up a copy of “Jack Wakes Up” by Seth Harwood.  It’s a good story and hopefully there will be more to come.

If it was shit, you know I’d tell you.  Not exactally the type of quote you’d see on the flap of a book cover but the truth is I went in expecting to not like it and I came out the other side as a fan.  That should tell you something right there.  It’s easy to win over the people that already like the style but to convert someone like ME!?!?  It must be good stuff.  So go buy a copy tomorrow morning.  I’m already looking forward to adding a new shelf to my bookcases full of nothing but podcast authors in print.  I’ve got a Mur, some Sigler, a Harwood tomorrow and some Hutchins soon to come.  Good stuff.
