Yes we’re back!  Another audio experiment for your amusement and criticism.  Freddy and I will create new content on a semi-regular basis, we’re looking at every other week, maybe every third week.  But we want to get a few shows in the can before we “go live” and try to make this a regular thing.

If you’ve heard the original “pilot idea” for this show from over a year ago, you’ll be very happy to know that we now have a loose format and some idea of what the hell we are trying to do before we hit “record”.  We’ll pick a movie or CD before hand and both of us will come to the mic prepared and ready to pontificate.

THIS is the only warning you’ll really get so pay attention; we don’t hold back on movie spoilers. The Titanic sinks, Rosebud was a sled and the chick in The Crying Game is a dude…  If we’re going to speak passionately about our movies, how can we leave anything out?  Spoilers abound in every episode!

When we get three or four shows in the can, I’ll revise this link and create iTunes/RSS feeds…  As it stands, there are a lot of little things we learned from show #1 that we’re looking forward to improving in show #2 and so on.  I figure if we don’t have our shit together by show #5, we’ll never get it together…  Oh, and that’s another thing.  We are potty mouths.  Just like in real life.  There isn’t an Explicit Tag big enough to cover what we say or how we say it.

    Posted July 1, 2009

We get started, define the show and get rambling on upcoming movie and music releases. We ponder Slayer’s demise and the blues musician’s blues.
Finally we discuss the movie “Idiocracy” in depth. It sucked, it was great!
In the end, the discussion devolves into mass consumerism, the death of mom/pop hardware stores and Fred’s obsession with holding CDs in his hand.

Intro music: Tenement Funster – Dream Theater
Various bed music: Stick Stickly – Attack! Attack!
Outro music: Baby, Please Don’t Leave – Buddy Guy

  2. Show notes: Episode #2 – Equilibrium

Rolling right along into show number 2! We point out our mistakes in an effort to learn from them. We beg for feedback from our listener(s), that’d be you, and commit to make a few more shows before we break down and cry because no one is listening…
We bid a tearful farewell to the 3, 6 or 9 celebrities that left us this week… and we look forward to a couple of crappy movies coming our way.

This week’s topic, “Equilibrium”. We discuss, dissect and digest the movie’s brilliant mix of “1984″ and the “Matrix”.

Intro music: High Speed On Ice – Talus
    Various bed music:
    . Linoleum Knife – Mastodon
    . Krakatoa – Yngwie Malmsteen
. Bamboleo – The Gipsy Kings
. Crazy on You – Heart
    . Psychopathy Red – Slayer
    . 9th Symf 3rd Mvt – Beethoven
Outro music: Freedom of Speech – Liquid Tension Experiment

  3. The first week there was a lot of jokes it was funny and still to the point, I wanted more. This week I was bored to tears, I felt like I was in class listening to a lecture. There were a lot of uhh and uhh and and. If this was the first one you guys did I wouldn’t want to come back. I was expecting more fun. If I hadn’t seen the movie by what the two of you talked about I wouldn’t want to. You guys made the movie seem boring and way too serious, the movie was kind of serious but they had fun with it. I think the highlight of the show was the bloopers. Be the guys I know you are, fun and light.

  4. When you talk music, you both seem to perk up. The movie stuff? Eh. Maybe cut that part down some. Or throw in a review on a random movie nobody would expect. The A-V Club from Hell review some random Julia Roberts movie their wives made them see? I’d be horrified but tune in.

I also think your listeners would like to hear more about the hosts. Add more about yourselves. Give those in radioland some perspective.

Kasey is right. The end is great. “Aw fuck, we have dogs.”

Edited during a tumultuous month and recovering from multiple tech problems, the third episode is FINALLY dropped!

Another steep learning curve episode in which we discover that while we don’t want a “scripted” show, the upcoming episode #4 will have more prep notes. I was very tempted to ditch this recording and call it a “lost episode”… But it came out better than I had expected so we’re learning something here.

Your hosts discuss a few rumored projects on Hollywood’s horizon (a gothy 1984?), wax nostalgic about the “golden age of gangsta rap” and even tell a few jokes… sort of…

For such a music-heavy episode, I probably should have a lot more bed-music than this but actually, this is all I’ve got…

Intro music: Wear Yo Hat (Buried and Bald) – NWH
Outro music: Guerrillas in the Midst – NWH

  6. “Your working on your, what, PhD in coolness? ”

    “Exactly.”

Best parts are when the two of you go off on tangents and one or both of you almost lose it – the jokes (?), ipod ADHD, Heathers, etc.

Each show gets better. Best one yet. Keep going. What’s up with Airwolf?

  7. I have a questions for the AV club:

I’d love to hear your opinions on when or if some movie franchises “Nuked the Fridge.”

    Star Wars
    James Bond
    Mission Impossible
    Indiana Jones
    Friday the 13th
    Halloween
    Nightmare on Elm Street
    Childs Play

  8. Dude had no idea you were doing this got bored today and was catch up on your site which I need to do more often because you’re maybe the only person that responds even a little bit to my FB BS. Can’t listen to it at work, but I’ll give you a full report in the morning or tonight.

  9. Listen to all 3 shows back to back maybe I should have taken a break but it was good. I don’t think any one show was better then the other. The beginning are a little ruff but it might be you guys getting in charter or something other then that I loved to it and will keep listening. When I read what you where doing I was think old school cassette days of making your own radio show in your bedroom when I was a kid, and would be able to rag on you but it was good there always room for improvement. I took some notes while listening and wrote them down so are comments and others are suggestions.

    Fred sounds like Seth Rogan
    ep 1
    1) artist discussions pick an artist discuss their total work like Britney Spears or Bob Dylan
    2) stop being PC don’t apologized it’s ok to piss people off
    3) maybe not a blow by blow of the movie more condensed

    ep 2
    1) tech talk is boring
    2) do you think celebrates are more fearful when one of them dies do they buckle their seat belts make sure they don’t party as hard till like 2 more die then they go back to being assholes

    ep 3
    1) house keeping is better left off air
    2) I do like the feed back but you guys are covering the same ground every show get to the show
    3) Fred is awesome it’s your catch phrase don’t sweat it, and I’m thinking you sound more like Penn Jillette rather then Seth Rogan but maybe if I meet you. You would probably sound like Fred.
    4) Planet of the Apes wasn’t that bad and Charlie and Chocolate Factory sucked. Batman was good because of Nicholson not Burton and his movies for the most part suck remember Batman Returns.
    5) The jokes were so bad they where funny.
    6) The Bloopers are great.

  10. Show notes: Episode #4 – Arlington Road

Wow, the plan was every other week, slipped to every third week and now we’re dropping to once a month. But this should be the last extended delay and we’ll be back on a every second/third week schedule again.

We figured out that too much prep work can kill a show just as easily as no prep work. We cut a LOT of the dry lists of details and I think we have finally learned the balance of what we want from this show.

Your humble hosts discuss some of the movies and music we’ve experienced, we learn that Fred likes a lot of “bottom end” and Morgan remembers that computers only do what we tell them… EXACTLY what we tell them…

Remember that this was recorded Aug 30 so we haven’t been able to incorporate some of the recent feedbacks yet. Get any new feedback in quickly as we plan to record again this weekend.

And once again, we REALLY appreciate your input, every single one of you. Thanks!

Intro music: We Rule The Fucking Land – Zimmer’s Hole
    Various bed music:
. Welcome to the Family – A Day to Remember
. The Voice Commanding You – Angra
. Living Dead – King Diamond
    . Metalocalypse Theme – DethKlok
Outro music: When the Music’s Over – The Doors

  11. Great show man! I wish Jay and I could get our shit together like you two. Sorry I don’t have any insightful comments, but I like what I hear. But here are a few comments:

    A) Definately don’t wait so long to post shows. I know you’re busy, but just post the unedited version or something if you don’t have time. Listening to you guys talk about upcoming movies you are looking forward to, but already came out almost a month ago, was a little odd.

    B) I’m not sure how to do this, but… I like the fact that you pick a great movie like Arlington Road. I know you guys aren’t worried about spoilers. But for a movie like that, it’s pretty much ALL about the ending. So either you ruined it for someone who hasn’t seen it, or you were talking about something we’ve already seen. You made a few points about the meaning of this or that and how you noticed certain things and what they meant, but it was still kind of like a recap. MUCH better than before though, but still kinda felt like you were just telling us what happened. And like I said, either you were telling us something we already knew or ruining it for someone who hadn’t seen it. I think it was mostly just the choice of movie though. Like you said, the entire movie was just one long drawn out buildup for one hell of an ending.

Other than that, I like your format so far. I like how you talk about music and upcoming music, then upcoming movies and shit. You kept a good flow from one to the next and didnt dwell too long on any subject. Can’t wait for the next show!

    • Show notes: Episode #5 – The 13th Warrior

    Recorded October 4, 2009

Recorded, edited and posted within two weeks!!! (plus one day…) We’re getting better!

Your hosts endure various interruptions and interference to record the fifth show for your pleasure. It really is amazing what that little USB microphone will pick up, please forgive the ambient noises that couldn’t be edited out…

Once again we sit in the grand studio to discuss and deride the movies and music we have encountered this week. We remind everyone that we are here for the spoilers. I wonder why Fred suggests Becca should listen to songs called “I Like to say Fuck!”… We also try to figure out how many ounces are in a wine bottle and how to pronounce the word “regurgitasome”

This week we discuss the 1999 movie, “The 13th Warrior”. We go on and on about the flick and not once do we mention how much both of us hate Antonio Banderas.

It’s a lot of fun doing these shows, we hope you enjoy listening to them. Keep that feedback and input coming, we love each and every one of you!

Intro music: Heavy Metal Pirates – Alestorm
    Various bed music:
. The Big Bang Theory – Barenaked Ladies
. Across the Universe – Beatles
. Angel of Death – Slayer
. Roads Go Ever On – Glenn Yarbrough
    . I Am Legend – White Zombie
Outro music1: The Lost Vikings – Dethklok
Outro music2: The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins – Leonard Nemoy

  12. Fred losing it was awesome.

  13. Waterworld was the big budget fiasco, not “The Postman” the Postman was 1997, Waterworld was 200million plus and was the most expensive movie ever produced until Titanic.

13th warrior was a very good flick, even the fight scenes were well done. And the Viking ship in Norway, at EPCOT is one of the props from the film. And Since you love Banderas so much – check out Once upon a time in Mexico. Johnny Depp gets his eyes ripped out, Cheech Marin gets blasted…. nice ending to the Mariachi trilogy

  14. Show notes: Episode #6 – Boondock Saints

    Posted November 13, 2009

Recorded, edited and posted within five days!!! Don’t hold me to that standard in the future though…

Episode number six, in which your heroes thaw out Han Solo and take on the mighty Jabb… Sorry, wrong episode six… Episode six, in which Fred and I fawn all over the new Slayer album and poke fun at a few of the movies we’ve seen in the last few weeks. I somehow use the words ‘Heavy Metal’ and ‘renaissance’ in the same sentence and Fred once again declares his heterosexuality. Fun stuff I tell ya!

This week we discuss another 1999 movie, “Boondock Saints”. A sleeper that relied on word of mouth recommendations to gain strength. Now it has a sequel coming out. Can’t speak for part two yet, but we both love part one.

Thanks for your feedback! We really do listen. This week’s show is a bit shorter, coming in around 51 minutes instead of the 69 minutes from last show. Saving you 18 minutes already! We’ve also eliminated “Housekeeping” and pushed “Feedback” further in the show. If you have suggestions, rants or maybe even, compliments, be sure to leave a comment on the site. I get a lot of them by IM or e-mails and Fred is feeling like I make it all up… But we’re happy to get them any way we can. Thank you for helping us build a better show.

Intro music: Three Little Birds – Bob Marley
    Various bed music:
    . Hate Worldwide – Slayer
    . Helldorado – W.A.S.P.
Outro music: Burn the Earth – Dethklok

  15. Postman v Waterworld:

I agree that there was a lot of hype about Waterworld’s big budget and slow opening weekend but from everything I’ve read, The Postman was a bigger financial disappointment overall. Waterworld actually made money in the end.

    WW=175M budget, made 264M overall
    PM=80M budget, made 18M overall

Both being set in post-apocalyptic worlds (one of my favorite genres) I think they both suck. I’ve seen Waterworld a few times and it’s just terrible. I’ve only seen The Postman once but the best thing I can say about it is I didn’t get seasick.

I think the real question here is a Family Guy quote, “How does Kevin Costner keep getting work!?”

  16. hard to argue any of those points, especially the last one.

  17. Peer: one that is of equal standing with another : equal; especially : one belonging to the same societal group especially based on age, grade, or status.

I have a couple of Mics and mic stands and a USB interface. Maybe we could isolate the mic from your desk. or workspace, and get separate mics on each of you to boot. Call me.

  18. Sorry, just catching up on your shows. Listened to show 5 where you are talking about my feedback on the Arlingon Rd show. I wasn’t saying not to spoil movies. I was basically suggesting you pick a movie that isn’t JUST an ending. I personally couldn’t care less about spoilers.
