Show number four: “Must See Sci-fi Films”

I prepared a list for this show. I had paper and everything, such the profession I’m becoming…

So here we are, show number four; “Must See Science-Fiction Films”. We recorded this an hour before we recorded the Metal show that became episode 3. That’s just another cool coincidence that our “sci-fi” show is Episode 4. (Star Wars? Ep4? C’mon, follow me on that one. No, 1,2,3,5 or 6 would NOT have been just as cool, SWep4 is special and I REFUSE to call it “A New Hope”…)

There’s not a lot of room for disagreement on this list, Wade and Chris list some movies and then we mash it up into one list.  And if you’re keeping score at home, this was recorded at the same time as the previous show so we still hear snippets of our guest, Lisa.  Next time the guest will be properly introduced…

But there are just too many of the definitive films that you can’t leave off the list.  So, trying to stir the conversation, I throw out a few oddball titles just for discussion but the list is pretty straight forward.  In no particular order:

10 – Metropolis
9 – The Day the Earth Stood Still
8 – Forbidden Planet
7 – Fahrenheit 451
6 – Star Wars (Ep4)
5 – Bladerunner
4 – Back to the Future
3 – Jurassic Park
2 – Avatar
1 – 2001: A Space Odyssey

And even though I threw “Moon” and “Gattica” out there as argument fodder, I’m pretty sure I’ll get a few comments about how I could have even dreamed of putting “Gattica” on the list…  My new “Blues Brothers”…

  1. you forgot Alien!!!!!

  2. Wade would argue that “Alien” isn’t a SciFi Film, it’s a horror film – ’cause he says that it’s the only movie he has ever seen that actually scared him….

  3. Well, I did have “Aliens” on there but it was deemed similar enough to “Avatar” that since we were trying to keep the list down to ten, Avatar took the advantage by looking wicked awesome in 3-D.
